Coming to Cinemas (26/4/2013)

For this fourth and final week of April, we have one of the most anticipated blockbuster of the year, and the only movie going against it is seeing how much sex sells in Malaysia. However, also starting this week is the French Arts and Films Festival (FAFF) 2013, so there's other options to explore for this weekend, which I will mention here.

Let's watch the trailers for the only two movies that are releasing in Malaysia this week.

Mencari Cinta

Director: Shirin Hj Khuzaimi
Cast: Nora Danish, Riezman Khuzaimi, Connie Ahmad
Running Time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
Language:: Malay
Classification: P13
Synopsis: Initially, Myra Tan Sri Johan was to be married to Malek, the man of her own choosing, however, at the last second, Malek runs out on her because he already has another lover. With all the preparations made and invitations sent, this sudden unfortunate turn of events is distressing for Tan Sri Johan and Puan Sri Mahani. Meanwhile, Razlan Ariffin is a village boy who is filial and respectful to his elders and owns a family farm, has just had his engagement with Mila cancelled, as she wants to pursue her studies instead. However, Razlan accepts the fact that he and Mila have no attraction to each other. In a twist of fate, Razlan becomes part of Myra's family scheme to get the two wed. But with their vastly different upbringings where Razlan is raised by traditional parents while Myra is an heiress with a modern way of doing things, will their romance ever pan out?

Trailer Impressions: Another Malay movie that sells on its sex. Ironic. Maybe just want to be another Ombak Rindu, but this time only it's legitimate sex. Strange that it got a P13 rating, so I don't know what the real message is it wants to tell its younger audience. Plus, you want to even condescend against orang kampung lagi? I think this is one of those controversial Malay movies, not because it has something enlightening or serious to say. Just wants to be controversial. Way to go for your directional debut, just like the disgusting Paper Moon.

Iron Man 3

Director: Shane Black
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau
Running Time: 2 Hours 11 Minutes
Language:: English
Classification: P13
Synopsis: In the third instalment of "Iron Man" directed by Shane Black, Robert Downey Jr. returns as the playboy billionaire that dons the red and gold metal suit to save the world. After the events of the last "Iron Man", Tony Stark is now fighting evil alongside his best friend, Lt. Col. James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine. But when Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Trailer Impressions: So here we have the first wave of superhero movies of this year. I was very excited when I saw the first trailer but as the months gone by and being outdone by the new Man Of Steel trailer, I think my excitement for this has waned pretty much. Still, this has become a much watch if you are invested in the Marvel universe, especially after The Avengers, and there really wasn't going to be any competition for this week. Also, this could be the last time we see Robert Downey Jr. solo in an Iron Man movie, so you'd better be sure to go see this one.

FilmBah's Pick of the Week

I think it's pretty obvious what everyone is going to be seeing this week. But if you are looking for something with a little more depth and drama, you could check out the movies that will be showing for the French Arts and Film Festival (FAFF) 2013.

Releases according to CinemaOnline and check your nearest screenings at Showtimes.
